You might guess that our Holiday decorating is not exactly 'normal'.
Every year, it's a new theme with a new color palette. I have boxes and boxes and boxes of ornaments and ribbons and accoutrements for the Season, and every year I combine different elements to create a whole new look. (Our kids can not remember ever having the same Christmas tree twice.) I like to play with new ideas, what can I say?! In my other life as a retail visual designer/display stylist, I am constantly coming up with new ideas and concepts for my clients, so home is just one big design lab for me.

A few years ago, our previous home's Holiday decor was my version of a 'Tattered & Torn' look, inspired by Deb Dusenberry at the Curious Sofa and Carol Hicks Bolton of Homestead. (My travels to see my daughter in Texas have helped, too!) Lots of warmth in ivory/cream/brown/copper tones, elegance & sparkle with crystals and silver serveware, texture in burlap/ torn muslin/velvet and natural elements all combine to create a look that is new & old at the same time....

Hey Deb! Your place is looking very beautiful for the holidays!! Very inspiring. Hope you and Bob are doing well. :o)
Debi,
You are sooo inspiring! All I want to do now is forget all responsibility and dig into the boxes and bins I have filled with all sorts of treasures over the years and start creating! Thank you for sharing!
I like to think that normal is whatever we define it to be, (of course, I like to think that about almost everything) and I bet your flair for unique and fabulous style is, for you, normal. Those colors are so rich, and everything glows. Hope to see you two soon.
Oh, it's all so beautiful! Thanks for sharing it!
I have 2 questions... Where did you get the cool glass or plastic ornaments that look like you put people's names in them, and how did you get your pillar candles to look so awesome???? :)
Thanks!!
Maryann, those ornaments are from the scrapbooking section at Michaels' crafts - they look like old yellowed bakelite plastic, and are the same shape as the label frames on photo storage boxes. I grabbed them from the sale bin!
The pillar candles are from IKEA - I buy them in huge quantities for events that I am decorating. They burn for about six to eight hours at the event, then I bring them home and only burn them for two hours at a time to keep them from collapsing. That also helps the ruffly top edges form! IKEA candles are really inexpensive but last a LONG time, and they are unscented so they can be used all year.
Hope that helps!
Hi Deb,
Thanks for the tour, beautiful. My theme this year is paper whites in everything. Easy and cheap and white!
