Cue Vizzini: "I'm WAITING!!!"

OK OK OK!!!!
Jermonne thanked me for that last post
but then said he's still WAITING for a link
to our Petite Retreat Summer Vintage Market photos.
ahem.

Sorry 'bout that, J.
I was just trying to keep things current around here
and not fall any further behind...
and keep our dear readers from missing any of the hot new items
up on the BH Marketplace site!

And then my laptop cord fritzed out and the battery wasn't charged,
so I wasn't able to get a $$$ replacement  and
back on the computer until this afternoon. ;0(

I don't think he wants to hear my excuses, tho
I picture him tapping his right foot on the floor,
whilst his arms are folded over his chest,
his head tilted to the right...
and he delivers the line just as
Wallace Shawn did as Vizzini in 'The Princess Bride':

"I'm WAITING!!!"

Without further adieu, Mister Swendell,
{and anyone else who wants to see them!}
here's the link to the photo album
on our Petite Retreat Facebook Page
{and thank you for being so patient with me! ;0) }

And Miss Julie did a lovely post about our show, too -
thank you Julie!

Retreat @ BarnHouse Marketplace Online!

The BarnHouse Marketplace is back online!
The boys have regrouped, restocked, and refreshed the online store
and they have this to say about it:

"Barn House Marketplace is an extension of the Vintage Home & Garden shows we host on our small farm in SW Washington. It is a reflection of our quest to live sustainably and our love for collecting, reusing and repurposing beautiful vintage treasures. It is a testament to the community of talented decorators, artists and designers who we call The Barn House Family. And collectively, it is a small representation of The Barn House Experience."

We are very honored to be featured
as BarnHouse Guest Vendors...
you can see select Retreat products here
{...and there are more on the way!

Speaking of the Fabulous BarnHouse Boys...
didja' catch them in the latest issue of Sunset Magazine?!
Check out their blog post for more info!

Petite Retreat Summer Market Sneak Peek #3

Today, magic unfolded here on Retreat Farm.
Liz, Patricia, Wendy and I set up displays
and tended to details in our spaces
{while visiting!}
It's done, it's ready, and it's out there waiting for sunrise...
And I can't even tell you how incredible it all is!
I'd SHOW you, but my camera rebelled
and swallowed a BUNCH of photos that I snapped today.
I have no idea where they all went ;0(
I'll get more in the morning,
but I know that doesn't help those of you reading this!

Come to Camano Island on Saturday, from 10 to 4,
and see what magic awaits you!

for directions, map, and more info

Petite Retreat Summer Vintage Market Sneak Peek #2

Summer has finally arrived in the Pacific Northwest! Thank goodness...
Time for picnics, camping, beach parties, and outdoor living!
We'll have a plethora of great products & ideas for you this Saturday
at Petite Retreat Summer Vintage Market
{click ^ for link to event blog with map}
Bob's been busy in the shop, creating all kinds of great new stuff from old stuff!
I've been busy with accessories... like, um, these LAMPS.
Victims of not only 1970's design, but also a felt-pen-happy decorateur (OI),
their curvy possibilities were very nearly overwhelmed by UGLY.
White paint to the rescue!
 Shabbylicious!
Topped with two of my custom ribbon lampshades,
these beauties are ready to shine in a beach house!
{There's a really cool 'candle' detail on them, too}
We may not be able to match Serena's Man Cave at Farm Chicks,
but we DO have a 'Man Tent'!
Bob has been collecting all kinds of vintage camp gear,
fishing gear, and other 'manly' items...
so bring your guy!

Tomorrow is set-up day,
and we can't WAIT to see what
are bringing!

One last sneak peek for you, posting tomorrow night!

Behind Door Number THREE......

 We'd like you to meet the third guest vendor

GUSSY
Restyled Vintage Chairs
Gussy Chairs is all about discovering cast-off antique and vintage seating with fabulous lines and undeniable charisma.  "Chair-ished" finds are transformed into fresh, one-of-a-kind, heirloom-quality pieces in artisan & designer Wendy Prowell's backyard studio  - a converted carriage house behind her West Seattle home. Though her website and etsy shop, she sells (and ships) restyled chairs all over the country.
We are delighted to have Wendy as a guest at our event! She visited us at our Spring Petite Retreat Market, and is as charming as her creations...
Gussy also offers chairs for sale from her large "as-found" collection, known around these parts as "unGussy'd" chairs -  perfect just as they are with no need of embellishment, or as "blank canvases" for customers' own masterpieces.Wendy will have several "unGussy'd" chairs in her space on the lawn at our market.

2nd, Maybe - but Definitely NOT in Second Place....

We finally got a chance to go to the newest show in the Seattle area - the 2nd Saturdayz at Sand Point Flea Market, held at Magnusson Park in the U District on - wait for it - the second Saturday of every month. {Are they brilliant or what?!}

Linda Morrison of LuLuz and Janet Sears of Blue Ewe are the promoters of this show  - and they have really outdone themselves by bringing together a stellar group of dealers and wonderful merchandise. We're really looking forward to participating in their Holiday show in November!

Whether you love to shop vintage shows or are a dealer, please do pay them a visit. You'll love it and we'll all love you for supporting the growing vintage show industry in the Pacific Northwest.

Friends Indeed

Last year at Farm Chicks,
we had the tremendous pleasure of meeting Larry & Coleen Sohn.
Coleen creates {actually, brings life to} a wonderful collection of fairies
for her business Coleen's Reflections.
Their booth was near ours and we visited throughout the show.
Kimberly snapped the photo above of all four of us
as we laughed and visited some more
at the BarnHouse Party at Chaps.
I love that photo!

Soon after that show, things changed for our friends
as Larry was diagnosed with an illness.
It's been a long year for them,
with treatments and adjustments to their lives.
And no more shows.
Coleen and I talk mostly through Facebook messages, sometimes emails.
Long walks and sweet moments have filled their days lately,
cherishing time together and time with their family.
They have been focusing on what is important.

When they couldn't be vendors at Farm Chicks this year,
we stood in 'their space' at the show
 and sent up energy that would bring them back there
next year.

Well...

This morning I heard from my sweet friend
that her best friend and husband and business partner
'made his transition' a few days ago.

I wish she wasn't so far away,
I wish I could change this,
I wish I wish I wish
that bad things didn't happen to good people.
And these are GOOD people.
I can't make sense of it
and I can't imagine how hard this is for her.

Please hold sweet Coleen in your thoughts and prayers, won't you?
Much love to you, my dear friend...

Let's Eat!

You've seen the 'first' display setup photos of our booth already -
the ones with the big ol' worktable/island that Bob built.
He loves building tables and, fortunately for us,
people love buying them. ;0)
This photo shows 'Set Two' of our main area...
We moved the square farm table there after the large worktable sold
{to lovely Deb, owner of Madeleine's Cafe & Patisserie in downtown Spokane!}
We put a sign on the worktable that said
"SOLD to Madeleine's Cafe"
and everyone who saw it said  "You HAVE to have their food!!!"
We didn't have time to eat when we delivered the worktable
on Monday morning,
but we plan to have a nice leisurely breakfast there
the next time we are in Spokane.
{The coffee and pastries smelled sooooooooo good!}

So, the table was in front of the kitchen sink.
Looked pretty cute!
For about half an hour.
Then a darling girl came and fell in love with the table
and took it home with her!
So
The curly shabby wrought iron chairs took center stage
until THIS CHICK showed up
Sweet Celeste swept through our booth like a spring breeze,
buying nearly every chair we had for HER restaurants
CHAPS and her newest venture CAKE
This is the interior of the new building next to CHAPS that houses CAKE,
during the Vendor Party on Saturday night.
Holy Mackerel this gal has style!

And now she has four curly shabby wrought iron chairs
and four burlap-covered diner chairs
and assorted other accessories from Retreat!
Since we plan to visit HER restaurant for dinner
{AND dessert, natch}
next time we are in Spokane,
we'll visit our furniture there. ;0)
We are going to have to do a buying trip sometime to fit all that eating in...
because on a show trip, there is never enough time to relax!

Thank you so much, Deb and Celeste,
for your support and encouragement.
We love ya!

FABulous Farm Chicks Show

Here's 'Set One' for our booth.
{That means that this is the way it started out on Saturday morning.
There were quite a few changes after that....
as things sold and were taken away, we re-arranged and re-stocked.}
The indisputable star of the show in our booth
at Farm Chicks this weekend
was Bob's INCREDIBLE worktable/island.
Completely traffic stopping.
{and considering there were THOUSANDS of people there,
that is really saying something!}

{Precise placement of props is very important to a craftsman!}
We also had a very charming metal kitchen cabinet/enamel sink combo
and she attracted some attention, too!

For more photos of our booth at the show,
please visit our Retreat Facebook Page.

More to come!
